Fur Traders Descending the Missouri

I think I know why I've always been drawn to this painting. It's the independent spirit of this man and his assistant. He's a freelancer like myself. All he needs are traps and a boat and he can make a living. And the beauty of the river and the lifestyle it affords him are his reward.
